THINGS TO DO IN ALGARVE

Since I’m still relatively new here (been couple of times), this post will be slightly different to the others. We will focus on main areas of activity and then drill down to each specific one. The Top 10 will follow once I can provide a well researched and experienced guide.

GOLF

Algarve offers visitors a variable landscape, stunning coastline with unique beaches, a wonderful climate and, what’s essential, plenty of things to do and experience.

For those who like to get a bit more active on their holiday in Algarve, there are plenty of places to try all different kinds of sporting activities. Golf is certainly the Algarve’s forté.

The Algarve is renowned as one of the best golf destinations in the world, with golfers of all nationalities coming to enjoy a game in the coastline. There are plenty of finest golf courses nearby Loulé.

  1. Laguna Golf Course, Vilamoura

This 18 hole course stands out in the area as being one of the most challenging golf course in Algarve. There are several lakes along the course and a rather high number of bunkers. 
Oceanico golf course where guests can enjoy a relaxing drink or meal after the game. Golf in the Algarve doesn’t get better than this.

  • Monte Rei Golf Course, Vila Nova de Cacela

This stunning 18 hole golf course in the East Algarve, offers beautiful surroundings to enjoy golf in Algarve. With the Serro do Calderao to the north, and the Atlantic Ocean to the south. Designed by Jack Nicklaus and set in over 1,000 acres of stunning nature.

  • Penina Golf Course, Portimão

Perhaps one of the most famous and historic golf courses in Algarve. Three beautiful, 18 hole courses set within 360 acres of stunning landscape. The resort’s 5 star hotel is the epitome of luxury where guest can relax after a game of golf with attentive staff on hand to look after their every need.

NAUTICAL SPORTS

Algarve is one of the greatest areas in Europe for all watersports, offering perfect conditions of over 300 days of sun per year, consistent Atlantic swell for surfing, variable coast life with lagunas and full of wildlife seabed. Differentiate area characteristic and many kinds of sports gives opportunity to train begginers as well as proffesionals.  

Most popular discipline includes kayaking, jet skis, flyboarding,  snorkeling, water skiing, scuba diving & many more.

The Algarve region shows high standards of facilities and services, translating into a wide range of water sports offered in any season and abilities of the visitor.

There are all kinds of highly specced sport clubs, gym running tracks and equipment centers you can enjoy through your Algarve travel in this volley area, beside taking active part in sport life there are plenty of sport events and shows you can experience during your stay.

SPORTING EVENTS

The year’s first sporting competition in Algarve to come under starter’s orders is the Grande Prémio dos Reis road race. Spectators line the streets of Faro to watch the athletes who want to get the year off to a good start by winning a medal.

In February, the international Almond Blossom Cross Country race takes place. Every year the events attracts some of the world’s top long-distance and middle-distance athletes. 

Wherever you are in the Algarve region, you can expect to see some of the world’s best cyclists. In February, hundreds of cyclists will be pedalling along the roads of Algarve. 

In March, the most important Portuguese MTB stage race is held in Tavira 

If you’re a football fan, then in addition to the national championships you must make sure not to miss the Algarve Cup. Every winter this women’s championship brings together the world’s top national teams.

All year round, you can see the best drivers on four wheels competing in races at the Algarve International Motor Racing Circuit.

MAIN TOURIST ATTRACTIONS

On top of sport life, Algarve is a great place for sightseeing, hiking and exploring new places, which include:

Day, sunset or brunch exclusive cruises along the coast line; around finest areas, nearby resorts and city surrounding regions

Sail a yacht with amazing landscape of the coast or down the Atlantic Ocean with dolphins and whale watching.

Airboat or gondola tours through stunning marble coast, high fiords and inside beach caves.

MAJOR CITIES

Furthermore, Algarve contains some of the most beautiful cities of Portugal, coast with finest resorts, membership clubs and unique estates containing plenty of places worth visiting, such as:

Lagos boasts a rich seafaring heritage and a coastline of dramatic natural scenery. It has never succumbed to mass tourism, giving the opportunity to enjoy selected company in isolated area.

Faro is a historic and culturally rich city that boasts a variety scenic plazas, greatest traditional restaurants, big series of saltwater lagoons, mudflats and three sandbars Island as well as luxurious cruises.

Albufeira is the largest, liveliest and most energetic of all of the resort towns that line southern Portugal’s coastline having truly intense and exclusive night life.
